Postal Service recognizes VA troops who put their stamp on Milwaukee
Darcie Greuel, left, and Sonia Dumit-Minkel, were two of 14 women recognized by the U.S. Postal Service, in honor of Women's History Month. Greuel won in the Military category. Dumit-Minkel won in the Health and Social Services category.
The Milwaukee VA Medical Center is blessed with a wide variety of talented, caring and hard working people.
It is impossible to recognize everyone for their accomplishments, but one local program has given us an opportunity to highlight some of our employees. The U.S. Postal service has had a formal recognition program for the last 14 years, titled “Women Putting Their Stamp on Metro Milwaukee.”
The awards, in a variety of categories, recognize Milwaukee-area women for having made a positive impact on their community. The awards are presented each year in March to coincide with Women’s History Month. This year the awards will be presented March 23 at the Country Springs Hotel.
The Milwaukee VA Employees being recognized are:
Darcie Greuel, a case manager from the OEF-OIF Outreach Team, in the Military category. Darcie has been in the Army Reserves for more than 27 years, was deployed to Afghanistan in 2003-2004, and is currently the commander of the 548th Minimal Care Detachment Unit based in Madison, WI. Darcie’s knowledge and experience with both the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs helps her tremendously with her dual role. Darcie is also a parent, a volunteer with Reclaiming Our Heritage and was the emcee for the 2011 Memorial Day Ceremony in Wood National Cemetery.
Sonia Dumit-Minkel, the senior staff physical therapist at our VA, in the category of Health and Social Services. Sonia specializes in rehabilitation medicine and has been a trailblazer in her field. She has been nationally published for her work in wound care studies. She was recognized with the Clinical Excellence Award in 2010 by the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association and was the Employee of the Year for 2010 at the Milwaukee VAMC. Sonia’s work goes far beyond the walls of our Medical Center; she is a Board Member of WIcare Ambassadors, and a member of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies. In addition, one of her great passions is her involvement with the Milwaukee Medical Mission. Sonia is currently president of the board of directors for this group and they provide annual trips for surgical medical care for under-served areas of Central and South America.
Darcie and Sonia were both humbled by the recognition and quick to point out that they both serve veterans with a team of employees that work just as hard as they do in providing the best possible healthcare to our nation’s Veterans.
