Without Compensation and Affiliated Students

A Without Compensation (WOC) appointee is an individual who performs Medical Center related duties without any direct monetary compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Individuals requiring WOC appointments include, but are not limited to, fellows, residents, university employees, other non-VA employees working at the VA, visitors, all students, interns/externs, work-study, researchers, instructors, physicians, visiting scientists, minors over the age of 14 (who may work in non-hazardous areas) and any other individual who is not compensated by the VA for their employment within the Medical Center.

Students participating in programs with which the VA Medical Center has a current affiliation agreement will be permitted learning opportunities. Consult your school, course coordinator or instructor for affiliation details.

  • Read orientation materials as required by your instructor, program director or Medical Center contact. Your instructor, VA program director or Medical Center contact will inform you as to which of the following forms you are required to submit.
  • Submit your completed Human Resource forms to your instructor, VA program director, Medical Center contact or Human Resources within the submission deadlines. NON US CITIZENS

  • Original proof of legal status in the U.S. will be required for non-U.S. citizens.

FINGERPRINTS

Fingerprints are required for all incoming trainees. Fingerprints should be completed 5 – 7 days prior to your anticipated start date and AFTER submitting application package to your Program Coordinator or Human Resources. Fingerprinting is done in room 70-E-41,Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 4:15 pm. No appointment is necessary. You need to bring a photo ID. Please allow 15 – 30 minutes for fingerprinting.

If you are not in the local area you can be fingerprinted at any VA in the country. You will NEED to provide the non-Milwaukee site with the following codes to enable Milwaukee to access your final results. Find a VA near you.

Security Officer Identifier (SOI): VAA7
Submitting Office Number (SON): 1719

If these numbers are not provided to the non-Milwaukee site, Milwaukee will be unable to access your results and you will have to redo your fingerprints upon arrival at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center which could delay your rotation start date.
