Poster for National Veterans Creative Arts Competition
The entry deadline for the 2020 local Veterans Creative Arts Festival at the Milwaukee VA is Feb. 5, 2020. Show dates are Feb. 10, 11 and 12. Opening reception is Feb. 10. The competition includes categories in the visual arts division that range from oil painting to leatherwork to paint-by-number kits. In addition, there are categories in writing, as well as the performing arts of dance, drama, and music. Call 414-382-5070 for more information.

National Veterans Creative Arts Festival

Co-presented by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the American Legion Auxiliary, the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival (NVCAF) is the celebration and grand finale stage show and art and writing exhibitions which are the culmination of talent competitions in art, creative writing, dance, drama and music for Veterans treated in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) national health care system. The 2020 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival will be held Oct. 26-Nov. 1 in Tacoma, Washington.

Competition Eligibility Criteria

This competition is open to Veterans who are enrolled at a VA Medical Center or Outpatient Clinic BEFORE entering the local competition.An eligible Veteran can enter local competition at only one VA facility per year. He/she can submit an entry in creative writing, dance, drama or music categories with a Veteran or group from another VA facility, but still represents and must go through his/her originating VA facility to enter the competition. This facility should be the site where he/she receives their primary treatment.

Saddling Up for Creative Arts Festival

Although raised in Wisconsin, Frank Kaiser brought a touch of the Old West to the 2018 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. He qualified by winning the local competition with a custom-made leather saddle. Read the story.
