Research

Our research program offers a promise for improving Veterans’ lives as well as the lives of their families and caregivers and many others who ultimately benefit from VA Research advancements in health care.

  • Research to study new treatments, compare existing therapies and improve clinical practice and care,
  • Research to create innovations that restore Veterans who have become disabled due to injury or disease,
  • Research to improve the delivery of health care to Veterans.

The Milwaukee VA supports ongoing laboratory and clinical research studies at this medical center, being conducted by dedicated investigators, many of whom are also VA clinicians. Our goal is to promote the quick translation of research findings into advancements in the health care of our Veterans and the community at large.

Participating in a Research Study

If you are asked to consider volunteering for a research study, please view or download the brochure, “Volunteering in Research,” which explains more about participating in a research study.  It presents a balanced view of VA research and explains how the rights and welfare of participants are protected.

You may also look for copies of the brochure throughout the medical center.

The Million Veteran Program

Our medical center is participating in the Million Veteran Program (MVP), an important partnership between VA and Veterans. MVP will establish one of the largest databases of genetic and health information to be used for future studies that may lead to new ways of preventing and treating illnesses in Veterans and all Americans. Participation in MVP is entirely voluntary and will not in any way affect Veterans' access to health care or benefits.

Finding a Clinical Trial

The website ClinicalTrials.gov has up-to-date information for locating studies involving a wide range of diseases and conditions. There are both interventional studies in which subjects are given an experimental treatment and observational studies in which subjects are just observed for outcomes.
