Milwaukee VA Medical Center
Here's pie in your eye!
Who wants pie?
Apparently Dr. Daniel Zomchek, Milwaukee VA Medical Center director, does, taking a cherry pie to the face Tuesday as part of an incentive competition to get employees to fill out the All-Employee Survey.
The seven work groups that achieved 100% participation by June 11 were put in a drawing to deliver early-bird pies. The lucky winners were the linen room, part of Environmental Service, and ADPCS Caregiver Support.
James Crawford from the linen room was randomly chosen to do the honors Tuesday near the Lake Wheeler pavilion. ADPCS will get its turn on Wednesday.
Crawford’s supervisor, L.C. Satterfield, teed up the proceedings like a sports announcer, noting the “deep-dish, ready-to-eat cherry pie straight from Mr. Sweet Tooth delicatessen” and that Crawford “has been practicing for two days on his pitching arm.”
With a huge smile and a deft motion, Crawford planted the whole of the pie squarely on Zomchek’s face. The whipped cream, filling and crust dripped onto the director’s clothes, with a cherry even landing on his shoe.
“That was cool! That was right down the line, dead center,” Zomchak said. “That was fantastic.”
Zomchek said he did not have a change of clothes standing by. “That’s part of the fun,” he said.
Incentives for taking the survey continue. Any group achieving 90% participation will be entered into a weekly raffle drawing for a Cousins milkshake or large drink and bag of chips voucher.
In addition, Russ Schneider, SEIU union representative, will get a pie in the face as well. All SEIU work groups that achieve 100% participation will be entered into a drawing to give Russ a pie in the face. The drawing will take place on Friday, June 18, and the event will be scheduled for the week of June 21.
